ABOUT

A Morning on the Gallops including Breakfast for 4

Paul Robson is an ex professional NH Jockey, runner up in both Amateur and Conditional jump
jockey’s championships and nominated for two coveted Lester awards. He rode 89 winners in
three seasons before he had to be retired against his will due too injury in 2005. Paul set his sights
on developing young horses and pre-training horses for some of the biggest yards in the country.
Taking out a full professional licence to train not only National Hunt horses but also training through
the summer months on the flat too had been the long-term goal when moving to the glorious
facilities which were purpose built as an eventing yard at Spittal on Rule, Denholm TD9 8TA.
Since moving to Spittal on Rule, along with Paul’s landlords, he developed a purpose-built all-
weather gallop, with portable schooling facilities, that stretches 7.2 furlongs on a lovely steady
incline. Along with hill grass gallops and flat gallops. The Jewel in the crown is the river Teviot where
the horses have a walkway that stretches 1k long by 25 meters wide. Fantastic for cooling down as
well as hydrotherapy.

Paul’s team of staff include his wife Steph who in her own right is an accomplished event and
dressage rider and looks after the pre training side as well as the ground work getting the horses
prepared for jumping, and learning how to do that, from pole work right through to show-jumping
grids before the jockeys develop these skills at speed for the racetrack.

Adam Robson, assistant trainer has held a permit to train horses for the past 20 years and has all
the experience to help pass on to staff and keep a keen eye on how the horses are.
Graheme Nichol the yards head man, has been in the racing industry for the last 40 years and is an
integral part of the team. He worked for the likes of Harry Bell, Grand National winning trainer John
Ledbetter and Ken Oliver. His experience in national hunt racing is second to none.
