TOP CHRISTMAS LOT: JASON THE “DREAM HORSE” MILITANT

Dec 13, 2022

ThoroughBid’s Christmas Sale Catalogue has a tremendously exciting addition in JASON THE MILITANT (LOT 7), a Henry de Bromhead-trained dual-purpose gelding by Sans Frontieres who consistently proves himself in the top echelons of both codes.

The eight year old is rated 154 over hurdles and 105 on the Flat, having won a Grade 2 Novice Hurdle and the Listed Finale Stakes at Naas last season. He has also placed in the Grade 1 Morgiana Hurdle, and has proved himself across the full spectrum of ground conditions, winning or placing on good, soft or heavy ground. Jason The Militant is a prime example of versatility and reliability.

With five wins and six places from just sixteen career starts, this horse is always in the money, season after season, and has brought home £96,000 for owner-breeder Peter Michael.

Jockey Billy Lee, who has partnered the gelding in victory twice, including his Finale Stakes win last year, said: “Jason The Militant is a classy horse with a good turn of foot and I was lucky to win on him twice.”

Owner-breeder Peter Michael said: “I am selling Jason as, financially, I have no other choice. The last thing I want to do is sell him, but I've carried on for as long as possible. He has been a dream horse for a small owner like myself, so it is a very sad day to have to let him go.

"I have many highlights, but, if I had to pick one, it was him winning that very exciting Grade 2 Hurdle at Naas. We always thought he was very classy and that was the day he had to show it, and boy did he show it! To battle and beat the very classy Beacon Edge, owned by the mighty Gigginstown House Stud who spend millions a year on owning horses, that is the stuff of dreams for a small owner.

“He has taken me to many big races, both jumps and flat, and I’m well aware I probably will never have another horse in my lifetime that can do that. He gave my mom a lot of good moments in the last few years of her life and that means the world to me.

“He is a home-bred and I loved him from the first time I saw him. A lot of credit has to go to Tom Burns at Derrymore Farm as he was the man who suggested Sans Frontieres and told me from day one that this horse was very classy and tough.

“I wish the new owners nothing but the best and I'll be cheering Jason on everytime he runs - I love him. They can expect to compete in many big National Hunt races and big Flat races - there are many options for top class dual-purpose horses like him. He is a type which is most definitely hard to come by!”

Bidding will begin for the Christmas Sale at 9am this Friday 16th December. Full catalogue: https://thoroughbid.co.uk/collection/22
