BRASSIL DREAMING BIG WITH DESERTMORE HOUSE

Sep 22, 2023

Friday 22nd September, 2023 – ThoroughBid are celebrating another big festival success after Desertmore House triumphed in the Grade 3 Kerry National at Listowel yesterday.

Purchased at Racing’s Online Auction House for £23,500 in the 2021 ThoroughBid Christmas Sale, the son of Court Cave carded his fifth win since going under the hammer and has now amassed £139,455 in prize money.

Desertmore House’s Kerry National win adds to a prolific 2023 for the online sales company, which has also seen graduates win at the Cheltenham Festival in the shape of Maskada, Punchestown Festival with Its On The Line, as well as Belfast Banter becoming the first horse to land a Grade 1 prize since being sold via ThoroughBid.

Martin Brassil, trainer of Desertmore House, said: “We’ve been very happy with Desertmore House ever since he arrived with us after the sale. I happened to know Denis Leahy, who foaled the horse, and he highly-recommended the horse to me ahead of the sale, so I spoke with John [Reddington] who likes to have a nice good-sized horse to ride. The £23,500 paid for him back in that ThoroughBid sale before Christmas 2021 looks a very fair price now!

“We wanted to run him in the Kerry National to find out what his level was. We were very pleased with the performance and now we can dream about the big Nationals, god only knows what he could achieve. He’s a lovely individual that takes his racing well, so it’s an exciting time to have a horse like him for the season ahead.

“As for ThoroughBid, they’re one of the few good things that came out of Covid! It puts a lot less strain on travelling horses to sales, and if you want to sell, they have the capabilities to come to the yard and take all the videos for you. It’s working really well.”

James Richardson, CEO of ThoroughBid, said:“Desertmore House has been a fantastic purchase. Following his Kerry National success, he now has five wins Under Rules to his name and is testament to the quality being sold online.

“It’s been a great year for some of our graduates. The likes of Maskada’s win at Cheltenham, Its On The Line at Punchestown and now Desertmore House are all helping to put us firmly on the map.”

Earlier this month, ThoroughBid announced it will be the first UK-based auction house to host an online-only yearling sale, the Online Yearling Sale on the 8th November.

The firm’s next sale, the October National Hunt Broodmare and Mixed Sale, will take place on Friday 20th October, with entries closing on Monday 9th October.
