CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL HOPEFUL TO GO UNDER THOROUGHBID’S ONLINE HAMMER

Mar 2, 2022 · March Sale

Tuesday 1st March 2022 – ThoroughBid’s upcoming March Sale will offer someone the chance to own a Cheltenham Festival runner in the shape of Maskada, as well as a host of well-bred broodmares and qualifiers for the online auction house’s Point2Rules Bonus.

Leading the horses-in-training offering is the Stuart Edmunds-trained six-year-old mare Maskada, who is entered in the Grade 3 Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Challenge Cup at the Cheltenham Festival this month. Already a Listed winner over fences and career earnings over £60,000, she looks a very progressive type that could give new connections a day to remember at Cheltenham in just over two weeks’ time. She also qualifies for the Elite Mares Scheme and has a bright future in the breeding shed when her racing days are over.

One of the headline broodmares is Moyode Gold, a two-time winning daughter of Gold Well. She is the half-sister to Gordon Elliott’s exciting 140 rated Grade 3 winner and Grade 1 placed novice hurdler Hollow Games. Moyode Gold’s dam is a half-sister to 2m-2m4f winner Tumbling Dice – herself out of a half-sister to high-class chaser Remittance Man.

Petite Buck’s, a half-sister to three winners including the Listed chase and eight times rules winner More Buck’s, and the Listed chase second Barbados Blue, adds further class to the March Sale. Her dam was a French 2m3f hurdle winner and half-sister to three black type performers, including the prolific 10-time Grade 1 winner and legend of the staying hurdle division, Big Buck’s. Another of those notable winners was Buck’s Boum, sire of Gold Cup winner Al Boum Photo, and Buck’s Bank a French 2m3f-2m6f hurdle and chase winner.

Another mare that could see the bidding heat up is All Risk For Love, who is in foal to exciting sire Jet Away. She is a half-sister to Cheltenham Festival Champion Hurdle contender Teahupoo, who was impressive in his latest 11-length win off a mark of 149 and has now won six of his last seven starts.

Crystal Etoile hails from the wonderful homebred family of Sir Evelyn De Rothschild that has produced Group 1 performers Hillstar and Crystal Ocean. She is the dam of three winners herself from four runners including black type performer Crystal Hope. She looks to be a wonderful prospect for anyone looking to add to their broodmare band.

The catalogue also features horses-in-training that will be vying for ThoroughBid’s Point2Rules bonus, such as the recent wide margin winner at Tallow, Hitthekettle, and Victory Club, a son of Soldier Of Fortune who is eligible for the full £15,000 bonus. The bonus was claimed for the first time by Grandero Bello at Punchestown two Sundays ago and offers £5,000 to any p2p graduate sold through ThoroughBid that goes on to win on rules debut.

Bidding on the March Sale will begin at 6pm on Sunday 6th March.

James Richardson, CEO of ThoroughBid, said: “It’s yet another exciting sale for ThoroughBid on Sunday 6th March and we couldn’t be happier with the talent we’ve attracted, to have an entrant going under the hammer on Sunday which will then run in the Cheltenham Festival just 10 days later is completely thrilling.

“With some of racing’s most sought after families represented, as well as new opportunities for connections to secure a horse qualified for our Point2Rules Bonus, it should be an exciting Sunday of bidding.

“Grandero Bello showed us all that sourcing a nice pointer from our platform and winning first time under rules is achievable, and we’re looking forward to more horses like him going under our online hammer.

“There looks a real opportunity to pick out a new superstar in this catalogue, and we can’t wait to see the bidding begin on Sunday 6th March.”
