DAVID EASTERBY: SELLING YEARLINGS ONLINE IS JUST EASIER!

Sep 15, 2023 · November Yearling Sale

Trainer and owner-breeder Easterby is hoping to sell at ThoroughBid’s Online Yearling Sale

David Easterby has welcomed the announcement of ThoroughBid’s Online Yearling Sale and is set to consign “six or seven” to the online-only auction, which will take place on Wednesday 8th November.

Announced earlier this month, the sale marks a first-of-its-kind for a UK auction house, as it will be conducted, like all of ThoroughBid’s sales, via thoroughbid.co.uk rather than in an auction house.

Easterby, who trains in Yorkshire in a joint licence with his father, the legendary trainer Mick Easterby, was among the first consigners to take an interest in the sale, drawn in by the ease of selling horses online. He said: “Will Kinsey [ThoroughBid co-founder] pointed out to me that you don’t have to take the horses to the sales, that being both a labour and a time cost saving. That was what tipped me over the edge.”

ThoroughBid’s offering of an Online Yearling Sale adds a less constrictive sale option for yearling consigners, allowing them to sell without travelling horses up and down the country.

Commenting on rising costs for trainers, Easterby said: “Staff costs are greater than they’ve ever been, especially with inflation rates, and – more than anything – selling online is just easier!”

As there are no barriers to international bidders on ThoroughBid, buying and selling worldwide is easier on the online platform. Easterby explained, “we have quite a lot of people ringing us up, trying to buy horses from all around the world now, and this gives both you and them a platform on which to conduct the sale.”

CEO of ThoroughBid, James Richardson, said: “It was brilliant to have such a good, early reception to this new concept of an Online Yearling Sale from someone as well-respected and influential as David Easterby.

“The sale has seen plenty of interest from consigners already and will hopefully offer up a nice collection of yearlings, who will hopefully go on to be successful on the racecourse.

Adding another layer of interest to the sale, ThoroughBid are offering a £5,000 Every 1’s A Winner bonus to any yearlings bought through the sale that go onto win first time out in any IFHA member country at two or three. Richardson explained, “buyers can take advantage of our £5,000 Every 1’s A Winner Bonus – a very achievable prize for a debutant winner sold through our platform.”

Entries for the Online Yearling Sale close on Sunday 1st October.
