MASKADA BECOMES FIRST CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL-WINNING THOROUGHBID GRADUATE

Mar 16, 2023

Purchased at last year’s ThoroughBid March Sale, Maskada repaid her price tag of £80,000 by landing the Grand Annual at the Cheltenham Festival on Wednesday.

The 7yo daughter of Masked Marvel, out of a hurdles and chase-winning Saints Des Saints mare, secured £70,000 in prize money from the race and a very bright future as a broodmare.

Henry de Bromhead, her trainer since switching from Stuart Edmunds following the March Sale, noted that much of credit for securing the mare had to go to Paul Roche:

“Fair play to Paul Roche who spotted her on ThoroughBid last March and suggested her. He buys a few horses for us and the lads are always looking for well-bred mares.

“I’m delighted for the owners, the Marigas, who are great supporters of ours. She looked like an ideal future broodmare and it’s great to have gone and won a race at Cheltenham with her. I’m delighted. She loves soft ground and she jumps and stays very well.”

The win marked ThoroughBid’s first sale graduate to go on and win at the Festival.

ThoroughBid’s next online auction, the Spring Sale, will take place on Wednesday 5th April, with bidding from 9am. Entries close on Friday 24th March. More info: https://thoroughbid.co.uk/collections
