MICK APPLEBY BACKS NEW £30,000 ALL-WEATHER CHALLENGE

Dec 2, 2021

Wednesday 1st December 2021 – ThoroughBid, racing’s dedicated online auction house, are dangling a £30,000 carrot into the all-weather racing circuit with the introduction of the All-Weather Challenge.

The new incentive will be open to all horses sold in ThoroughBid’s All-Weather Sale on Sunday 16th January, who will then go on to earn points across the UK and Ireland’s six winter Flat tracks until 28th April. With 10 points awarded for a win, four for finishing second and one for third, the horse sitting at the top of the leaderboard on 28th April will earn connections £20,000, the runner-up receives £7,500 and £2,500 goes to the third-ranked horse.

Five-time Champion All-Weather trainer Mick Appleby was delighted with the news and said: “It’s a really good incentive and it should help attract more owners to have horses on the all-weather.

“It’s also very welcoming to have ThoroughBid’s All-Weather Sale to look forward to in January, as usually if you’re looking for new horses around that time there isn’t a way to get them, especially not with a bonus attached.”

James Richardson, Managing Director of ThoroughBid, said: “We’re delighted to offer up another incentive-led sale on the back of our Point2Rules Bonus announcement last week, which has gone down really well in the Jumps community.

“We’re confident that this challenge will be met with open arms as well, and as a team sponsor in the inaugural Racing League this year, we saw the importance of all-weather initiatives.

“It’s going to be exciting to be able to follow the leaderboard early next year as new connections from the All-Weather Sale will be vying for a share of that £30,000.”

ThoroughBid’s presence in the bloodstock world continues to grow, most recently in the successful selling of Grade 1-winning hurdler Belfast Banter for £130,000.
