OLLY MURPHY STRETCHES TO £75,000 TO KEEP ITCHY FEET

Jun 10, 2022 · JUNE SALE

Friday 10th June 2022 – Olly Murphy has put his faith in Grade 1 winner Itchy Feet, going to £75,000 to purchase the former Kate & Andrew Brooks-owned eight-year-old.

After five hours of online bidding at ThoroughBid’s June Sale, the 150-rated chaser was purchased by his current handler and the horse will remain at Warren Chase Stables.

Olly Murphy said: “Itchy Feet has been brilliant for Kate & Andrew Brooks. He’s a serious horse with form at the very top level, so I was very keen to keep him in the yard.

“He’s worth every penny of £75,000 and will hopefully give someone a real thrill for the season ahead. He’s in great order at home and we’re very much looking forward to getting going with him again in the autumn.”

Meanwhile, Rouge Vif, the other star lot consigned by the Brooks’, was purchased for £40,000 by Colin Peake, a passionate racing owner who brought forward the idea of Lisnagar Oscar running in the silks of Ukraine at the Cheltenham Festival in March, in partnership with Mark & Julie Slater and friends.

Peake previously owned the Harry Whittington-trained Breaking Waves, who reached a career-high rating of 132 over fences, and he was delighted with the new purchase:

“We’re very excited to have a horse of Rouge Vif’s quality running in our silks next season! We love our racing, and the idea of spending the day together with a chance at one of the big meetings is the kind of thing you dream about.” said Peake.

Recent Newton Abbott bumper winner, Kiss My Lucky Egg, who was unsold at Goffs’ Doncaster Sale last month, fetched £27,000 (purchased by David Mullins) to the delight of consigner Bart Beswick: “We didn’t get what we wanted for her back in May so we thought we’d give ThoroughBid a go, and it couldn’t have worked out much better! Getting the horse entered was a very smooth process, and most importantly of all we’re delighted with the price.”

Elsewhere, Anthony Honeyball went to £23,000 to purchase the Chris Barber-trained Talkingtothemoon, who was a recent winner of a point-to-point at Upton Cross and is eligible for ThoroughBid’s £5,000 Point2Rules Bonus.

123-rated winning hurdler Kalkas went the way of regular supporter JD Moore, while Donald McCain made his first purchase on the platform in the shape of Irish pointer, Comemylittleson, who went for £6,000.

ThoroughBid CEO, James Richardson, said: “It’s been a very busy day of bidding and we’ve got lots of happy customers on both sides of the fence. Olly Murphy is delighted with being able to keep hold of Itchy Feet, while Rouge Vif has given a new partnership of friends plenty to look forward to.

“We’re delighted to have got a good price for Bart Beswick’s Kiss My Lucky Egg, and it’s also great to see the likes of Anthony Honeyball, Donald McCain and David Mullins all involved in a hectic five hours of bidding.”
