THOROUGHBID GAINS BHA AUCTION HOUSE ACCREDITATION

Apr 19, 2023

Following a successful first full year of online auctions – nine in total, adding to the three completed in 2021 when the company began operation - ThoroughBid has received full Auction House accreditation from the BHA.

As a result, ThoroughBid has been formally added to the list of specified sales for all types of auction races as published on the BHA’s Racing Administration website and in the Racing Calendar. This accreditation will allow ThoroughBid sales graduates to be run and sold in UK auction races.

In order for a ThoroughBid sale to qualify as one of these specified sales, it must meet three mandatory requirements: a minimum of 25 lots offered for sale in the catalogue; the catalogue in question must conform with the IFHA’s International Cataloguing Standards; and the Bloodstock Industry Code of Practice must be incorporated to the conditions of sale.

In the last year, ThoroughBid has gone from strength to strength, having  been the auction house to see the likes of Cheltenham Festival winner Maskada (sold for £80,000 in our April Sale), Grade 1 winner Itchy Feet (sold for £75,000 in our June Sale), the useful, dual-purpose five-time winner Jon Snow (sold for £50,000 in our Autumn Sale), Grade 2 winner Jason The Militant (sold for £50,000 in our Christmas Sale) and, most recently, stylish bumper winner Mikimoto (sold for £46,000 in our March Sale).

James Richardson, CEO of ThoroughBid, commented: “Obtaining BHA Auction House Accreditation is an enormously important development for ThoroughBid.

“2023 has been a great year for ThoroughBid, with five of our graduates running – and one winning – at the Cheltenham Festival, so becoming a BHA Accredited Auction House adds another vital string to our bow. The ability of our graduates to run in auction races has become another great reason to choose ThoroughBid when buying and selling thoroughbreds.”

ThoroughBid’s next sale will take place on Wednesday 10th May, the entries for which close on Friday 28th April. Unlike other thoroughbred auctions, selling with us means that vendors can receive their proceeds from just seven working days after hammer fall, don’t have to wait months at a time for the next sale in the catalogue and reduce their staffing and travelling costs by selling online rather than at an in-person sale.
