WILL KENNEDY JOINS THOROUGHBID AS CONSIGNMENT AGENT

Oct 24, 2022

Monday 24th October, 2022 – British jump jockey Will Kennedy has joined ThoroughBid, racing’s online auction house, as a consignment agent.

The 41-year-old, now in his twentieth season in the saddle, adds to a growing team that already includes French Champion Jockey James Reveley, Andrew Elliott and ThoroughBid’s agents in Ireland, John Bourke and Tarlach Mac Giolla Cheara.

Speaking about the new venture, Kennedy said“I’ve always been very interested in the breeding side of things and am now looking forward to getting involved in the bloodstock sales industry.

“ThoroughBid, being the UK and Ireland’s first online auction house, is a unique product and that interested me even more. Your horse doesn’t have to leave the yard for it to be sold, which makes things much easier from a staffing point of view, and if you’re on the buying side, you don’t have to be anywhere, you can bid from wherever you like. I think that it’s a great idea.”

“What I really like about it is the flexibility. ThoroughBid can set up a sale whenever the market suits, like we saw with Belfast Banter last year. If you’re wanting to sell a horse that has already won, and you don’t want to have to run it another couple of times waiting the next eight weeks or so for the next sale, you can just get on and sell it.”

Kennedy will continue to ride professionally, and has recently moved into a regular role at Olly Murphy’s yard, where he’s hoping to secure rides as the National Hunt season gets into full swing:

“It’s been quite slow recently with regards to getting rides. I didn’t have a lot of people with summer horses, but I recently started up a job with Olly Murphy, who wanted someone in-house, and it’s going really well. He obviously uses Aidan Coleman, Sean Bowen, and also Fergus Gregory, but he just wanted someone in-house for when he’s not able to get those guys, so that he isn’t then using someone completely alien to the yard.

“I’m working there five days a week and then hopefully, once we get going, and get a little more rain, there’ll be some rides to be had.”

ThoroughBid’s next sale will take place on Friday 18th November, with entries closing on Monday 8th November.
